SMS for schools, colleges and universities in Nigeria
Nigerian parents plan around three terms, a resumption date and, for older children, the JAMB, WAEC and NECO calendars. eSMS Africa lets a school send fee reminders, resumption notices, PTA meetings and exam-season updates to every parent from an Excel list, with each child's name and balance merged in, and without a school-wide WhatsApp group full of replies.
What makes schools & universities messaging different in Nigeria
- JAMB released the first batch of 2026 UTME results on 17 April 2026, checkable by texting UTMERESULT to 55019 or 66019 (Channels TV). A short SMS to parents explaining how to check saves the school office many calls that week.
- Most private and public schools run three terms, with resumption, mid-term break and end-of-term dates set by each school or state ministry. Fee reminders work best timed a week before resumption, with the balance and the school account details.
- WAEC and NECO senior school certificate exams fall in the third term for SS3 students. Schools often message parents about the timetable, exam-day arrival times and result release, which WAEC and NECO publish on their own sites.
- Fees are mostly paid by bank transfer into a named school account or through a payment portal, so parents value a receipt SMS that confirms the amount and the child's name.
Messages schools & universities teams in Nigeria send
Fee reminders with balance
Merge each child's name, class and outstanding balance from your bursary sheet and send a reminder a week before resumption, then a receipt naming the child once the bursar confirms the transfer.
Resumption and mid-term notices
Schedule resumption dates, mid-term breaks and early closures to every parent at once, with a second reminder the evening before resumption for boarding students and their drop-off times.
Exam-season updates for SS3 and JAMB candidates
Share mock exam dates, WAEC or NECO timetable links and practical days, plus a note on how candidates can check JAMB UTME results by SMS when JAMB announces them.
PTA meetings and events
Invite parents to PTA meetings, prize-giving, inter-house sports and graduation ceremonies, with date, venue and any levy to bring, and send a short reminder on the morning of the event.
Attendance and safety alerts
Tell parents when a child is absent without notice, or when the school closes early because of weather, flooding or a security alert. These are transactional and reach DND lines.

- Admission drives, open days and new course adverts are promotions in NCC DND category 3 (education). Parents who blocked education or sent STOP to 2442 will not receive them.
- Fee, resumption, attendance and safety notices to parents of enrolled pupils are transactional and can go on the transactional route.
- Pupils' names, classes and fee balances are personal data under the NDPA 2023. Only send to the parent or guardian on record, and remove numbers when a pupil leaves.
- Do not copy JAMB, WAEC or NECO short codes or sender names. Point candidates to the official channels and check every date against the examination body's own announcement.

Schools & universities SMS in Nigeria: common questions
Will fee reminders reach parents on DND?
Yes. A fees reminder about a child already enrolled is a service message, so it can go on the transactional route. Keep it free of adverts for new programmes; if it includes a promotion, it is treated as category 3 (education) traffic and DND parents will not receive it.
Can we send results by SMS?
You can send a short summary or a link to the result portal, but keep it to the parent's registered number. Many schools send a notice that results are ready with a scratch-card or portal login step, which avoids results reaching the wrong phone.
How do we upload our parent list?
Export your list from Excel or your school management software as CSV, with columns for the parent phone, child name, class and balance. Import it in the dashboard, map the columns to merge fields and preview a few messages before you send.
When do we need a sender ID?
Parents trust a message from the school's name more than an unknown sender, so register an ID such as your school's short name with each network. eSMS Africa manages the approvals; you can send on the eSMS default sender while it is processed.
