SMS for safari operators, hotels and travel in Tanzania
Safari operators, Zanzibar hotels and lodges use SMS to confirm bookings, give guests their driver's name before landing at Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar, and send next-morning game drive times. SMS reaches guests on their own foreign numbers when roaming, and also reaches local drivers and guides who need instructions in Kiswahili.
What makes safari, hotels & travel messaging different in Tanzania
- Tanzania recorded 2,294,495 international arrivals and USD 4.41 billion in tourism earnings in 2025, and Zanzibar alone reported 654,880 arrivals, so operators handle a growing number of guests arriving on foreign numbers (TanzaniaInvest).
- The northern circuit runs from Arusha and Moshi to Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro, while beach trips centre on Zanzibar and the coast. Many trips combine both, with several transfers that need timing messages.
- Guests often keep their home SIM while roaming, so messages go out as international SMS. Collect the number in international format at booking and confirm it before arrival.
- Drivers, guides and lodge staff coordinate by phone across areas where data coverage is patchy. A Kiswahili SMS with the guest name, flight and vehicle is easy to check on the road.
Messages safari, hotels & travel teams in Tanzania send
Booking confirmations
Confirm dates, lodges and the balance due, with a link to the full itinerary. Guests who booked through an agent appreciate hearing from the operator directly.
Arrival and transfer details
Send the driver's name, phone number and meeting point the day before arrival, so guests know who is holding the sign at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Zanzibar's airport.
Daily trip timings
Tell guests when tomorrow's game drive, balloon pick-up or boat trip leaves, and what to bring. Lodges can send these to every guest in a group at once.
Staff and driver dispatch
Send drivers and guides the guest name, flight number, arrival time and vehicle in Kiswahili, and alert them quickly to flight delays or itinerary changes before they set off for the airport.
Post-stay feedback
Thank guests after check-out and invite a review with a short link, sent once, to guests who agreed to receive it. Do not keep messaging guests who do not respond.

A practical summary with sources, not legal advice. Check the regulator's current text for edge cases.
- Guest data often comes from foreign agents and returns to them. The PDPA restricts transfers of personal data outside Tanzania to countries with adequate protection or with the guest's consent, so cover this in your booking terms.
- Guests from the EU and UK may also be protected by their home data laws. Keep marketing to past guests opt-in and include an opt-out.
- Booking, transfer and timing messages are transactional. Offers for a return visit or a referral discount are promotional.
- Tour operators and hotels that keep guest records should register with the PDPC as data controllers.

Safari, hotels & travel SMS in Tanzania: common questions
Will SMS reach guests on foreign numbers?
Yes. Send to the full international number, for example a UK or German mobile, and the message goes as international SMS to the guest's home network, which then delivers it while they roam. Your sender ID may display differently abroad, so sign the message with your company name in the text as well.
Do guests need to reply to confirm?
Not usually. Most operators send transfer details and ask guests to call or message the driver if plans change. If you want replies, use a two-way number, which is available in Tanzania on request, or include a link to confirm. Roaming guests may pay to reply, so keep replies optional.
Can we message drivers and guests from the same account?
Yes. Use separate templates and contact groups for guests and staff, with English for guests and Kiswahili for drivers. Team roles let reservations staff send guest messages while operations staff handle dispatch, and every send appears in the same reports.
Does SMS work in Zanzibar and the national parks?
Zanzibar is served by the same national networks as the mainland. Coverage inside parks is patchy, and a message sent while a guide is out of range is delivered when the phone reconnects, within the network's retry window. Send key instructions before the vehicle leaves town.
