Sending an SMS is only half the story — knowing whether it was delivered is what lets you build reliable systems. Delivery Reports (DLRs), also called delivery receipts, tell you the final status of every message, giving you the visibility needed for reconciliation, analytics and support.
What a DLR Tells You
A DLR reports the lifecycle of a message: submitted (accepted by the gateway), delivered (received on the handset), failed (could not be delivered), or expired. eSMS Africa preserves the underlying operator status codes so you get the full picture.
Receiving DLRs via Webhook
Point a webhook URL at your endpoint and eSMS Africa will POST delivery updates in real time as each message's status changes. This lets your system react immediately — retry failures, update dashboards, or reconcile billing.
Why DLRs Matter for OTP
For authentication traffic, DLRs let you detect delivery problems instantly and fall back to alternative channels if needed. Tracking OTP delivery rates by country and operator also helps you monitor route health.
Using DLRs for Analytics
Aggregate DLR data to measure delivery rates, identify underperforming routes, and prove ROI on messaging spend. Combined with the eSMS Africa dashboard's real-time reporting, DLRs give you complete operational visibility.
