Lower SMS spend rarely means paying a lower rate; it means sending fewer, better-targeted, single-segment messages on quality routes. Here is where the savings actually come from.

Keep every message to one segment

The single biggest lever. Write in the GSM-7 alphabet, avoid emoji and smart quotes that force Unicode (70 chars), and shorten links so a URL does not push you into a second segment. Halving segments halves the bill.

Clean your list before you send

Validate numbers first and remove malformed, non-mobile and duplicate entries. You stop paying to text numbers that were never going to receive, and your delivery rate looks honest.

Use quality routes and real receipts

Grey routes look cheaper per message but fail silently, so you pay for messages that never arrive. Direct and Tier-1 carrier routes with genuine delivery reports cost a little more per message and far less per delivered message. Transparent per-country pricing lets you see the real rate before you commit.
